As part of our initial assessment, we observe your posture and movement. It’s not to criticise or ridicule you or your posture. It’s simply to help us understand how you’ve adapted and compensated for external stresses and strains.
Truthfully, perfect posture is a myth. It doesn’t exist. There is no example of perfect posture because we’re all different. Your posture results from you adapting to remain pain-free, regardless of the posture you find yourself in.
As chiropractors, we can see when one shoulder is higher than the other and when your pelvis is misaligned. Just by watching you move, we know which of your arms is dominant. Or if you’ve got an old injury that you’re maybe compensating for. We know if you could do with some pointers on engaging your hips to prevent injury.
These small observations can reveal so much and help us build a picture of why you’ve come to visit us. Like a tree that grew on a windy clifftop with solid roots and stubborn branches, your adaptations and postural changes only make you stronger.
