If you’re a first-time client at Cathedral Chiropractic Clinic, you’ll need to give us some information about your background, medical history and the nature of your condition. This is so that we can provide the best possible care, tailored to your specific circumstances.

A bit of paperwork

The paperwork does include a short questionnaire and we also ask you to score your pain before and after treatment so we can measure the outcome of the treatment. This paperwork provides us with general information about you and your condition.

Consultation

During your first consultation with the chiropractor, you’ll discuss any health-related issues and concerns. You’ll also learn about potential treatment options.

History and examination

In order to pinpoint your problem, the chiropractor will ask you a number of questions related to your condition. A variety of targeted tests will be performed to determine which tissues are affected and to what extent.

X-rays

Your specific condition may require us to have X-rays or other diagnostic investigations. Such investigations are by no means routine and, whenever possible, we will (with your permission) try to obtain these tests from your GP. This is done to either rule out more serious conditions or to assist us in assessing the most effective treatment plan for you. We can request further tests via your GP or we can refer you privately to another clinic.

Report of findings

It is really important, following taking your medical history and performing a physical examination and any extra tests if needed, that we explain what is going on with you in a way that is easy for you to understand. This explanation normally helps to alleviate any fears that you may have about your condition and it is an excellent opportunity for you to ask  any questions that you may have.

Same-day treatment

Once the examination is complete, patients will generally have their first treatment during this same visit. This may include spinal adjustments and physical therapies.

Home instructions

Before leaving, you’ll be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be carried out at home. This may include ice or heat applications, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises. You may also be offered lifestyle advice, particularly where the chiropractor considers that this will improve your rate of recovery and have a positive effect on your day-to-day living and future health.

Scheduling the next appointment

Regular treatment is essential to the process. We arrange our treatments around your schedule. Generally speaking, patients are seen within 1 to 2 days and are provided with a complete review of findings. Treatment options for your condition will also be discussed at this time. Experience shows that a more intense initial course of treatment is usually most effective, with reducing number of visits per week over the ensuing 3 or 4 weeks.
